“Always consider safety first, water and electricity don’t mix!”
Choosing the correct lighting in the bathroom is essential, as it is one of the most frequently used rooms in the home. Many tasks are carried out in a bathroom every day, such as applying make-up, shaving, or putting in contact lenses. Quality lighting will make these daily grooming routines a lot easier to do. Lighting can also make a dramatic effect on the look and atmosphere of a bathroom too, and generally make the room a more pleasant place to spend time in.
There a number of rules and regulations for illuminating your bathroom in a safe way and only light fittings which carry an IP (ingress protection) rating can be installed. The IP rating is usually followed by a set of numbers depending on how sealed from moisture the unit is. The most common ratings you will come across will be IP44 and IP65. The bathroom is also divided into 3 zones, Zone 0, Zone 1 & Zone 2. These zones are there to help you decide which fitting should be placed in a specific area, they are divided into zones by the distance light fittings are located from sinks, showers and baths etc. Please refer to diagram for more accurate information.
Most light fittings and wall lights are in a chrome finish as this is the main colour used for taps and shower heads etc, however there are some gold fittings slowly being released on the market. There are a number of light fittings being designed for bathrooms which adhere to the current regulations, a crystal chandelier has been recently pictured over a roll top bath which gives a luxurious look to any bathroom. Whether you wish to simply illuminate a dark corner or add a spot of glamour to your shower time, the correct light fitting can be found on our site.
