The dining room is usually one of the most multi functional rooms in your home, it can be used to have meals with the family, entertain guests at dinner parties, help the children with homework and play games... just to mention a few.

Choose a fitting suitable for the space, a large crystal chandelier in a small dining space will look out of place while a single simple pendant in a grand dining room will quickly get lost as well as provide inefficient light. Put hanging fixtures on a dimmer switch (if possible with the selected fitting) to allow you the ability to control the mood of the room and quickly change the rooms perception from practical homework space to classy entertaining area. Also take into consideration the shape of your dining table when choosing a light fitting, this doesn’t mean that over a round table has to be a round light fitting but it helps to think about this when shopping for lighting. If the light is going to be hanging over a dining table, you can allow it to hang lower than you would in the lounge, creating a feature.

Adding a floor lamp in the corner of your room or a table lamp on a side board can also help to achieve a perfect dining atmosphere.
